As the weather warms, the SouthCoast offers a ton of great outdoor dining options. While you’re sure to enjoy any al fresco setup, there’s something special about a meal by the water. Check out this selection of seaside dining escapes.

New Bedford

The Black Whale

Located on the city’s bustling City Pier 3, The Black Whale features an all-season deck with views of downtown on one side and fleets of fishing vessels on the other. Save room for an after-meal treat from neighboring spots like Mirasol’s Cafe and Acushnet Creamery.

Also calling Pier 3 home is The Whale’s Tail Clam Bar. This is the perfect casual spot to grab some classic seafood shack fare on a summer afternoon. It’s also the perfect pit stop if you’re hopping on or off the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard.

Merrill’s on the Waterfront

Just a minute or two down MacArthur Dr away from all the hustle and bustle of Pier 3 and the ferry terminal sits Merrill’s on the Waterfront. The back patio (and even the dining room if the weather’s crummy) offers intimate views of the harbor nestled among docked fishing vessels.
