As the winter chill begins to settle in across the SouthCoast, some of the region’s best outdoor activities aren’t going to cut it no matter how many layers you put on. Luckily, there are plenty of indoor activities to get you and the kids out of the house for a few hours. Plus, these five spots offer plenty of adult-sized fun so everybody can enjoy!
PLAY Arcade

This list isn’t in any particular order, but I have to admit that PLAY Arcade is my absolute go-to for indoor family fun. Not only does PLAY feature more than 50 coin-operated arcade games, but the menu is filled with arcade-themed foods and monthly drink specials (both kid- and adult-friendly). The bar’s craft beer list is also ever-changing and never disappointing. Give the kiddos a cup of tokens and send them off while you sit back and relax in Grandma’s living room.
Wonder Bowl

A personal longtime staple for Friday night hangs, school vacations, and first dates, Wonder Bowl is an often underrated spot for a quick outing. Affordable bowling specials and options for all ages and experience levels make Wonder Bowl an option for any family. Striker’s Sports Bar & Grill and the snack bar offer a variety of tasty bites and beverages before, during, or after your lane time.
Mass Escape

If you’re truly looking to escape the bitter cold, head over to Mass Escape. Choose from one of three different rooms, each featuring a unique hands-on, mental adventure game. Get your instructions, put on your thinking caps, and use the elements in the room to solve the mystery or complete the mission before time runs out. Don’t worry about the mystery of where to eat after, since Sixes & Sevens is just a block away.
New Bedford Whaling Museum

The Whaling City’s rich history comes alive at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. There’s plenty to explore through the permanent and rotating exhibits and other special events on weekends and throughout school vacation weeks. Head across the street to Tia Maria’s European Café before or after your visit to fuel up with a latte or hot chocolate and a pastry, or sit down for a delectable breakfast or lunch.
Kilburn Mill

While we’re on the topic of breakfast and lunch, no visit to the Kilburn Mill is complete without a stop at Dough Company. Of course, this converted textile mill boasts dozens of shops featuring rare and unique finds. In the basement, you’re sure to find even more treasures and adventures as you browse the endless aisles of New Bedford Antiques.
